Great machine June 12, 2010 Rick Moriarty (Syracuse, NY USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Love this machine. Was delivered in one large box. It comes mostly assembled, but it's in enough pieces that you can carry them anywhere in your house for final assembly. All the cabling and pulleys are already on the machine. There really are only nine bolts to install. But I took my time with it -- about an hour and a half. If I had help, I could have done it in under an hour.
I have a weight bench with free weights, but I purchased this machine so my wife and children could lift without the dangers posed by free weights. They can lift with this machine without me there to spot them.
Comes with 160 lbs of metal weights, which is plenty for me, my wife and our children. No, you can't add any more weights to the set.
It works great and is very compact. Fits nicely in my basement, which does not have a very high ceiling. To change the weights, you just pull a metal pin out of one slot and stick it in another. Takes about a second. The weights and the levers move very smoothly, just like the machines they have at the gym. In fact, this is very close to gym quality (probably because Body Solid makes some commercial equipment, I believe).
I have not completely abandoned my weight bench, but you just cannot beat the convenience of this home gym. Changing from one exercise to another is a breeze, so I'm able to get my workouts done a lot faster.
I did not buy the optional leg press because, from the pictures, its looks like you can't use the curl bar while the leg press is attached, and it would be kind of inconvenient to have to put the leg press on and off every time I use the machine. If anybody has the leg press, I'd love to hear how it's worked out for them.
Great home gym! April 3, 2010 Jeffrey A. Unterbrink (Cottage Hills, IL) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This gym replaced a bench, olympic weights, bars, squat rack, and leg press machine. It does the job better than all the others I have had. Very well made, almost a gym quality piece of equipment. I bought the leg press attachment and it really makes this a complete body workout now. I have young kids and did not want my old weights falling off the bars onto them, so this solved that problem, along with freeing up lots of space and cutting my workout time quite a bit. So far I'm really happy with this purchase.
Great Product! January 16, 2010 David (Arizona) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This body solid gym arrived nicely packaged with no missing parts. It was easy and quick to put together; mostly pre-assembled. You need socket wrench set, one area is a tight fit for other types of wrenches. Every part seems to be high quality. Quickly changes from one exercise to the next. Smooth operation. I am very pleased.
Surprisingly versatile and easy to assemble November 5, 2009 Lifelong Learner (Mayland) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased this product mostly because of the easy assembly promise, and was not disappointed. I am not particularly handy, and was able to assemble the unit, by myself, in less than an hour. I have not owned a home gym before, but am absolutely pleased with how sturdy it seems to be, and the variety of exercises you can perform on it. It strikes me as perfectly appropriate for all but the most hardcore exercise nuts!
Perfect Little Home Gym September 14, 2009 Bob (Springfield VA) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
After reading the reviews, I decided to give this gym a try and have not been disappointed. It really is pretty easy to put together - I did it by myself in 90 minutes with no issues. Don't worry about the tools they say you need - I did it with an adjustable wrench and vise grips - nothing more. The quality of the gym is readily apparent plus the footprint isn't that big - it fit right into a corner (just make sure you've got at least 8 feet clearance). There are more than enough exercises on this set to satisfy most people who lift two-three times a week. It's not meant for Olympians or anything like that - but I'll never bench a Volkswagen anyway. I would recommend, depending on your fitness level to just go ahead and get the extra 50 pound stack for $69 if you bench in the 150-160 range cause it only comes with 160 in weights and you want to have room to increase if necessary. All and all I'm very happy I went with this. You can certainly get cheaper ones (and more expensive) but I think this is a great quality mid-level home gym.
