Amazon.com Product Description The Bowflex PR1000 home gym is a great way to strengthen your muscles and add a bit of cardio training to the mix with over 30 strength exercises and a built-in rowing station. With up to 210 pounds of Power Rod resistance, this versatile machine helps work the abs, arms, chest, back, shoulders, and lower body. It includes triple-function hand grips for lat pull-down, a horizontal bench press, and four-inch upholstered roller cushions for leg extension and leg curl exercises. The rowing machine rail also folds when you're done with your workout The PR1000 utilizes Bowflex's patented Power Rods, which provide resistance, or weight, that feels as good as or better than free weights--but without the inertia or risk of joint pain usually associated with free weights. You can hook one, two, three, four or all of your Power Rod units to the cable pulley system and go from as little as 5 pounds all the way up to 210 pounds of resistance. not bad, but could be better August 29, 2010 Ernie W. Boling Jr. This is a good run of the mill workout machine. It has several different exercises available, good construction, and 210lbs of weight resistance right out of the box. If you are just looking for something to use once or twice a week to feel like you are trying to exercise more, or if it is going to be a clothes hanger in the corner after a month, this is the best choice. However, if you are seriously going to work out three times a week, try to build muscle, maintain muscle tone, and drop a few pounds, spend the extra money and get a Bowflex with more weight and more attachments.
Great machine August 14, 2010 Harley I am 62 years old and recently retired. I purchased this machine to help lose weight and stay in shape. I can't run or walk much due to some knee problems so needed something that I could get a good workout with and the Bowflex exceeds my expectations. I work out four times a week for thirty to forty minutes and after only a couple of weeks I can feel the results. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to stay in shape. It will adapt to your situation, if you can't do a certain exercise, just skip it and do one you can do. So many people buy these machines and they become expensive clothes hangers, but if you are serious about your health and fitness and willing to put in the effort then this is the machine to buy. You will get good results.
Good for toning August 6, 2010 Num47 (Riverside, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just bought this recently just to tone my body out a little more, and wow am I pleased! Yes I do have to say that the rods don't feel as heavy as they are labeled, but when you're working out, you don't really notice once you get into it. I've been using it now for the last couple of days since I got it and like others say, it feels better than weights but gives you the same end result.
Assembly was surprisingly easy and made even easier when someone else is there to help you; I would say it was about a hour job with assistance. It's a real simple procedure, just pop the piece in the appropriate spot and bolt it in, that's it!
Not really sure of what else to say but that it's an overall great product.
Best Bang for the Buck August 2, 2010 Tony Apf I have wanted a Bowflex for quite sometime, but was having a hard time justifying the price. I came across the PR 1000 on Amazon.com and found the the price I was looking for. It took about 3 hours to put together and the machine looks sexy sitting in my bedroom. My only complaint is that I was missing 1 nut, but that was an easy fix at the hardware store. I wanted the Bowflex because I am a middle aged man with a spare tire and I dont get much exercise at my desk job. The first thing about the machine is that when I sat down to start the exercises, I noticed how sturdy it was. There was no rocking around on the seat and everything was in easy reach. I also liked the fact that was no jerking motion like you get with free weights. Every exercise is smooth. I began to feel the burn after the first 5 reps and was really getting into using this machine. I highly reccomend this unit to anyone who gets little exercise like I do. It gives me just the right amount resistance that I am looking for. I am not looking to become Mr. Olympia. I just needed a machine that will allow me to thin down and tone up. The Bowflex PR 1000 gets 5 stars and 2 thumbs up
Experienced user of Bowflex July 9, 2010 Gapplin The PR1000 Home gym is a great fit for me and my two sons ages 16 &12. I had an older model Bowflex from 1999, where you had to buy the lat pull down and leg curl pieces separately. My ex-husband took that Bowflex with him last year with our divorce, so I had been planning to get another one. The PR1000 is a great price in comparison to my older model, over $400 cheaper. I always got great results with the Bowflex workout, and this model provides the same. As a woman I don't use very heavy weights so this model provides plenty. My 16 year old son is pleased with the amount of weight as well, and he is the size of a full grown man. There are a couple of things I dont like in comparison to my older Bowflex. One, is that I could do reverse leg curls (laying on my stomach) on the older model, but not with the PR1000. The leg curl extenstion was configured to sit up higher on the old model so that you could fit your legs under the top piece while laying on your stomach. You can't do that with the PR1000, just the forward leg curls. The second thing is the lat pull down bar is a little more narrow, so the lat pulldown excercies for your back feels a little awkard. I do like the easier set-up and sleek look of this model, as well as the fact that you dont have to buy those pieces separately as in the older model Bowflex. Overall I am happy with my purchase.
