Amazon.com Product Description
The key to keeping off excess weight is to build lean, fat-burning muscle. Enter the FreeForm Hideaway Gym, a compact yet fully featured device that perfects the core bodybuilding movements necessary to build a strong, lean body. The Hideaway Gym supports three main body positions. When facing forward, you can perform such exercises as tricep extensions, chest dumbbell flies, chest presses, and abdominal curls, helping you work a variety of upper body muscles. When facing in, the machine lets you perform bicep curls, upright rows, upper lat rows, lower back rows, and more. Finally, you can perform exercises in the standing position, with exercise options that include leg press, glute and inner thigh presses, and calf flexions. All told, the Hideaway Gym offers all the exercises you'll find on more expensive TV-promoted home gyms but at a far more affordable price.

The Hideaway Gym also makes it easy to change your resistance level thanks to the patented quick-change resistance bands. Just select the bands you wish to engage for the exercise--no complicated cable changes or stubborn weight stacks. And with a resistance range that varies from as low as 10 pounds to a maximum of 200 pounds, almost anyone can use the machine to build strength and burn fat. Best of all, the machine breaks down in less than a minute and folds almost flat (5 inches off the ground), so you can easily slide it under a bed or store it in a closet. It's the perfect home gym for space-conscious users who don't want to sacrifice functionality. Also ideal for rehab, the Hideaway Gym comes with a professionally produced workout chart and carries a five-year limited warranty.

About James Design Company
Founded in 1988 in a small manufacturing facility in Southern New Jersey, James Design Company has been manufacturing and designing innovative fitness equipment for more than 20 years. The company released its patented 3-Dimensional Arm system in 1991, helping change the thought process of how chest, back, arm, and shoulder exercises should be performed. The free-floating arms and straps that people see on many gym machines today--which allow for a free range of motion for your entire body--stem from the James Design Company's original ideas. The company's latest product, the FreeForm Hideaway Gym, is intended to once again revolutionize the fitness industry. Sold completely assembled, the machine does away with time-consuming changeovers between exercises, and folds up in seconds for easy storage. Most importantly, the machine delivers a club-quality, full-body cardio/strength-training workout. The James Design Company is located in Milmay, New Jersey.

Product Description
The FreeForm Hideaway Gym is the most efficient core body building exercise machine that is on the market today. Use it to build strength and burn fat. The patented quick change resistance bands allow the user from beginner through serious weight trainer to easily perform a complete strength training workout. It comes completely assembled, and easily folds flat for storage. It comes with an effective and professionally produced workout chart that shows the gym position for each body part workout. The user can perform the same exercises as much more expensive TV promoted home gyms without the need for complicated cable changes. This will allow the user to perform a complete body workout in less time, and then stow the gym away in a closet or easily fits under most beds. This gym can also be used by seniors for a more gentle muscle exercise and stretching. It is great for rehab as well.

5 out of 5 stars SMOOTH!!!   June 30, 2010

For me, the one word that describes this fantastic machine is SMOOTH! I have been off and on over many years using various machines, free weights and other exercise programs. This machine is the best so far. I'm not a big person, only 5 feet tall with a medium build yet everything is within easy reach for me. When doing front shoulder press work, I simply reach down and flip one of the bands to increase or decrease resistance. When doing back work, you just turn around in your seat. There are so many ways to save time and yet get in a full work out. And the best part for me is how smoothly the exercises become when you are using either the arms or the attached straps. No more faltering. Continuous, smooth movements with any routine. I recommend this machine for anyone no matter what your age....and I am 63. Hats off to this inventor.

5 out of 5 stars Great Product, especially for the price   June 3, 2010

I was a little hesitant to buy the FreeForm gym, but I'm glad I did. Except for arm curls, all of the exercises have good range of motion and consistent resistance change. The squats look a little strange in the online video, but they actually feel very smooth when the machine is correctly adjusted for your height. It is very solid and should prove to be very durable. The amount of resistance is good for the average guy, but some people will find the resistance too light for the squat exercise. It folds down fairly easily, but still doesn't fit under my bed...although in its defense my bed is a little lower than some, and the machine really does fold to a low profile. However, the sturdy build comes at the price of added weight. I could see some people finding it a little heavy to roll around.

There are a few things that could be improved:

For one, the machine could have rubber feet or pads where the frame of the machine touches the floor. This doesn't matter on carpet, but on hard-wood flooring the machine can leave scratches when moved around...and it can slide easily. I installed some adhesive felt pads at about six different points which has helped a lot.

Second, it could use more resistance to allow for more strength development. The 200# of resistance is plenty to get a good workout, but an extra 20 to 40 pounds of resistance would allow for more growth. If you can bench press more than 220# a few times, this probably won't challenge you. Otherwise, it should be a good fit for most people in the market for a home gym in this price range.

Third, the company could do a better job of packing it to minimize small paint chips during shipping. Mine had a few paint chips which are really just cosmetic and minor and don't effect the function at all, but still it is disappointing to get a new piece of equipment with paint chips already.

So, my favorite exercises on this machine are the chest flies, low rows, and squats. With a little playing, you will probably find a few good exercises not listed on the poster that comes with this. I would recommend this machine to anyone getting started with strength training and for most people getting back to a regular fitness routine. If you are an avid weight lifter or body builder, this may not have enough resistance for you.

5 out of 5 stars Best on the market   May 24, 2010

We bought a FreeForm home gym and we love it. We are both seniors and we were looking for a workout gym that would be easy to use for seniors and not take up a lot of space. We previously had a Bowflex Power Pro but did not use it much due to the space needed and having to move the seat around as well as changing rods/accessories. The FreeForm is so easy to use that we use it regularly. We sold our Bowflex and now only use the FreeForm.

5 out of 5 stars We like it   May 22, 2010

Good, as advertised. Comfortable to use. The free form aspect, which permits exercise at a wide variety of angles, seems to make the exercises more effective. My least favorite are the leg positions - partly I suspect because my legs are kind of weak. Use for upper body is especially good. (We have had it for two or three months).

have had this Free Form for about a month. 5 minutes to set it up, and it was ready to go. i leave it up in my office and it takes very little space. best of all, i use it every day, unlike other exercise equipment i have owned. in 20 or 30 minutes, i can get through 2 sets of all the exercises with a pretty thorough work-out. definitely recommend it, especially at under $300 with free shipping.
