5 out of 5 stars Big bang for the buck   September 3, 2010

Body-Solid StrengthTech EXM 2500S Home Gym. This is a solidly built, attractive home gym with multiple work stations. I highly recommend provided you are prepared to assemble it. It took me about 4 hours and I'm real handy around tools. There are lots of parts and just pictures for instructions. Still. it was adequate once I dove in and got the hang of it. Do not tighten the pulleys until the cables have been run. This will save you lots of undoing. It ships in 4 boxes with(4)50lbs boxes of wieghts on a pallet. Pretty easy to get off the truck by myself. The guy wanted to charge me an extra $25.00 to use his lift gate! What a extortive jerk! One other word of advise. Make sure you position it exactly where you want it. Because once you load it up its very difficult to move without taking the weights off which is somewhat involved. Also make sure you have enough room around the machine to use it. At least 10'x10'. O.K. kids, that's how you get so much machine for relatively low dollars. I got mine about 5 days after I bought it.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Home Gym   August 29, 2010

I ordered this very recently from Fitness Factory. There were no problems with shipping and the item came with all the parts, which is unusual these days. The quality of the parts are extremely good and they all fit together perfectly. I am also extremely proud of Body Solid for doing such a caring job of packaging.

As other reviewers have already stated, you have to finger tighten the pulleys because when you go to installed the cables, you have to remove pulleys as you go in order to get the cables routed around them. Seems unusual but don't be put off by it. I don't think it would be possible to improve the design. Its already excellent. By the end of the day, once I got this thing put together, I was amazed by how smooth it works and the exercises target the desired muscles perfectly. And you can do nearly every exercise you could want. Just make sure you that when you go to put it together, place the main frame where the gym will stay. It gets really heavy as you put it together and becomes difficult to move. I wouldn't recommend sliding it on carpet because it may cause it to shift. So get it right after you start assembly! Leave plenty of space around it because you will be doing exercises standing and sitting next to it and you need the extra room.

My only complaint is the lack of information included with the gym. I could only speculate how to use the straps that came with it. Plus there were a few extra items such as a very small end cap, some double sided foam tape, and a bag full of sticky numbers. No clue what thoses things are for. The instructions didn't require them.

Otherwise, the best home gym on the planet for under $1000.

5 out of 5 stars Best value home gym   May 4, 2010

Very well made for a home gym. Almost commercial quality. Very smooth motion and gives a great work out. I did a lot of research before purchasing, and I think this is the best gym available for the price. I've read they are not manufacturing this gym any more, but you can still find it from one store. Shipping was quick and painless. Comes in three boxes plus the weights. You have to unload it from the truck, but two adults can handle it.

As others have said, there are lots of parts but assembly can be done in one evening if you plans things out. Separate all the parts and label them by the numbers before starting. There are only drawings (no text) to help with assembly, but if you have the parts separated and check off each part on the drawing as you go, the assembly is fairly straightforward. Definitely recommended.

4 out of 5 stars value buy lacking documentation   February 3, 2010

The gym is well made and a value for the money. If considering, be aware that there are a couple of styles for this gym - a one weight stack version and a two stack version. I had a home gym before (Weider) and this one is both designed and built better. For a reasonable price, the gym offers a good number of exercise options.

Thanks to other reviewers who warned not to tighten the pulleys when first installing them. While having pulleys in place makes stringing the cables easier, many must be taken out and reinstalled in order to place the cable properly. I also second other comments about the lack of good instructions. My gym came with a couple of additional inserts w/o explaining why they were there. The diagrams are OK but not great (e.g., in some cases, 2 pulleys are to be installed but the diagram only shows one -- the number of parts listed is only way to know). No written explanations anywhere. I also fault body solid for not marking the parts. Why can't each item be identified? Sauder places a letter on each item for its "assembly required" furniture. Each type of bolt could be in a separate marked bag rather than 8 types of bolts in one bag.

Only time will tell as to durability - though I suspect that will not be an issue.

4 out of 5 stars decent machine   January 28, 2010

assemby of the machine is a little time consuming, directions are mediocre at best. when the work is done, the machine is a great work out. I would recommend this machine to anybody.
